Тема урока: Health and healthy lifestyle

Подтема: An informal letter: giving news

Цель: развить коммуникативные навыки у учащихся при написании неофициальных писем на английском языке.

Задачи:

· Практические:

1) Обучение правильному составлению An informal letter: giving news

2) Систематизирование и закрепление знаний лексического и фактического материала по данной теме

3) Контроль знаний по изученным ранее грамматическим темам

4) Совершенствование лексических навыков

· Обучающие:

1) Обучение навыкам составления неофициального письма

2) Обучение навыкам анализирования письма

3) Обучение умению сравнивать официальное и неофициальное письмо

· Развивающие:

1) Развитие коммуникативных навыков в письменной речи

Тип урока: комбинированный

Оборудование: доска, мел, учебник (SB, WB), аутентичные письма и объявления на английском языке; аудиозапись объявлений на английском языке; раздаточный материал (карточки с объявлениями из разных газет на английском языке).

I. Организационная часть

1) Приветствие

T: Good morning, everybody! I am very glad to see you at today's lesson. How are you?

P: We are fine, thanks. And how are you getting on?

T: I'm fine too. Thank you. What day is it today?

P: All are present.

2) Целеполагание

Today we are going to speak about health and I am sure that it's the best wealth. We'll discuss how balanced diet helps us to be fit, healthy and strong. You will know something interesting and new for you. I hope that it will be important and useful for you. You see that your health is in your own hands. Thousands years ago, ancient Greeks said: "The First wealth is health. Health is the best wealth." These words are very true. Also, we are going to learn how to write informal letters.

But, first of all some phonetic exercises.

There are exercises that are useful not only for your body but also for your tongue.

a) Now, look at the blackboard. There is a tongue twister, which consists of two proverbs. Listen and repeat after me.

- If one doctor doctors another doctor, does the doctor who doctors the doctor doctor the doctor the way the doctor he is doctoring doctors? Or does he doctor the doctor the way the doctor who doctors doctors?

- Once a fellow met a fellow in a field of beans. Said a fellow to a fellow, If a fellow asks a fellow, Can a fellow tell a fellow What a fellow means ?

- Can you can a can as a canner can can a can?

b) Let's revise the words and do a phonetic exercise now. Look at the blackboard.

There are cards with words there, but letters are mixed up in them. Your task is to look the words through and say what these words are and what their translation is.

How often do you receive letters?

Do you prefer writing letters or e-mails?

Which do you prefer to receive?

Why do people write letters?

How can you understand in 2 seconds that a letter is informal or formal?

(the endings: loads of love, love, the exclamation marks, there are no addresses)

So, let's read the letters and answer the following questions:

What illness or injury do Emily and Julie each have?

Now you should look again at the texts and answer the question:

Make notes for an informal letter to a friend who has moved away from your town. Follow the plan below. You can work in pairs.

Paragraph 1: Start with an appropriate phrase. Apologize for not writing sooner.

Paragraph 2: Give news about yourself.

Paragraph 3: Give news about your friends and/or family.

Paragraph 4: Ask questions about your friend.

Writing Tip!

In informal letters, we usually use everyday language.

We normally use short forms instead of long forms.

Then you are to write a letter of 120-150 words using your notes from exercise 5. Also, use phrases from exercises 3 and 4. You should include as many of the new expressions as possible.

If you are ready to check, swap letters with your pair who should comment in the use of informal language and the organization.

Let's read the letter and then answer the questions.

1) Why hasn't Susan written before?

She was rollerblading down a hill with a wall at the bottom and I broke both my wrists when I tried to stop myself.

3) What is Susan's news about Maria?

Maria's finished with Dave.

Vocabulary:

rollerblading - катание на роликовых коньках

to come round - заходить, заезжать

Do(without TO) +verb- действительно, все же, наконец; непременно, обязательно.

e.g. He did ask the question. - Он все же задал вопрос.

You should match the highlighted phrases in the letter with the functions below. Do it individually.
