I am a leader
When I think about leadership in general, many thoughts visit my head. It is a really interesting topic to discuss about. Nevertheless, it is still kind of blurry in my head and in my essay I will try to put my thoughts together and see how it can apply to me if I think about myself as a leader. In our life, during the process of socialization, and entering into a mature life, we are often faced with the concepts of leader, chief, boss. Some assume that it's a single entity and has no differences.
Let's talk about the most famous quote about leader said by American president, Theodore Roosevelt.
"The leader operates openly, and the boss behind closed doors. The leader is behind him, and the boss drives. "(K. Kruse, 100 Best Quotes On Leadership)
As we know, many of us mix up the definitions of leader and boss.
In fact, the leader is the man who leads the people in promoting and inspiring people to do anything and who do not forget about equality; the boss, at the same time, is working on the closed society, presenting the demands on paper, explaining what to do. Boss manipulates subordinates and the leader leads showing in his face authoritative personality and thus proving his companions that his work is quite right and valuable. The boss is at the heart of the position shift, and not constant, and the leader of the team is selected. The leader is chosen with the support of a large number of people as opposed to the boss. Boss is an independent figure, which is created in the course of a career or job. Often you can hear a long biography, which is painted by different life events. The boss (aka Head), could also a leader. His task is, above all, take care of the company, its internal and external development, and also about the employees. Thus, it is possible to emphasize that the boss can be a leader who has the right qualities.
We can make a conclusion that this will solve all the leader is usually together with the staff (the team) and the boss is doing it secretly, so as not to ruin his reputation. For the boss his excellent reputation is the most important thing. He does not want interference in the work. It requires a clear accomplishment. First of all, the leader has the different nature of their publicity, which he holds in society. Workers and employees always have critical opinions against the boss and the leader has great (and fairly earned) respect. They do not show all of their affection on the public. It may be noted that the leader of the self-promotion is always needed for the elevation of their status, in what is almost does not need the boss.
Maybe not everyone can agree with the statement of Theodore Roosevelt, but you can always try to achieve the right balance. There are qualities that support the main characteristics of the right boss, which retains a leader.
Every company has a formal leader, who controls all important processes. If you think of the organization as a single living organism, where each employee is a vital organ, the leader, of course, it is a brain and a heart there. It transmits information to all structural systems (which are the divisions) at the meetings, binds them together, thinking through the chain of command, as well as coordinate the work of each department. But often, within the organization there is the informal leader, which has no less an impact on the team than the head. What place does it occupy in this complex system?
Dictionary "Psychology" under the editorship of A.V.Petrovskogo and M.G.Yaroshevskogo gives the following definition: The head - the person to whom officially entrusted with the management team and the organization of its activities. The head bears the legal responsibility for the group's activities and defines a system of punishment and encourage subordinates. In contrast to the leader, the head formally regulates the rights and duties, as well as a group in other organizations.
Despite it, a leader can be member of the group, for which it recognizes the right to make responsible decisions in important situations. In contrast to the head, which sometimes deliberately elect and often prescribed, the leader extends spontaneously. He may not have any, (as recognized by the group), authority and it has no formal responsibilities.
What's the difference, you ask? The chief - a man who "assigns roles" and controls the operation of the team, cycling with the administrative, formal resources. The leader also uses formalized resources: values, needs group, its expectations and aspirations. The leader, in fact, is also a boss/chief, but the nature of his actions is other than an ordinary manager. He does not command, he leads the others, and they act in relation to him, they become his followers. The leader is a person who has taken the volunteer more responsibility than the prescribed position.
And there is another important difference between the boss and the leader. The leader leads behind the official chief, the head of the group, and directs its members to the right direction. Where is an appropriate allegory: a leader: "Do as I do," the head: "Do as I say."
Of course, the leader and the head of the organization may be one and the same person. Management position formally creates the necessary preconditions for the manager to lead the team, but as such it automatically does. You can be the first person in the organization, but not the actual leader (as the responsibilities of a leader cannot enter in the job descriptions). Leader is a person recognized by others as the only one who is able to meet the needs and to show a way out of seemingly hopeless situations.
But there are still a few points that distinguish the boss from the leader.
The leader of the team brings order and consistency in the work performed. For him, the people are colleagues, not subordinates. He builds his interaction with them more on the facts and in particular on the framework of established and well-known purposes.
The leader inspires people, brings enthusiasm to work. He clearly sees the end result and knows how to take steps to achieve it. The leader is sure and confident in his actions, he is encouraged by what he does.
The boss puts the order in the interaction with subordinates in the first place. The emotional component of the relationship is practically impossible. Employees for him are just employees, people who perform their duties, and relate to him with respect.
Leaders are able to consider and listen to the needs of workers, respect their values ??and drivers emotions, because they are "on the same side of the barricades." Leaders do not need to imagine the respect, they simply deserve it.
Leaders, in order to achieve the goals and motivations of subordinates use control. Penalties may prevail over promotions. Defects and failures are often discussed more than the achievements and successes. (J. Reh. What is a leader)
Leaders also often build their relationships with the people on trust, motivating and inspiring showing their personal example. They lay the basis for the confidence of the group working together. Errors and their collective recognized them easily, and then looking for ways to correct them.
In decision-making a boss focuses on the old experience, reduces to a minimum the possibility of finding new ways out of difficult situations.
The leader, on the contrary, makes continuous efforts to develop new and controversial solutions to the problem. To take the risk and take responsibility for it is a distinctive feature of the modern leader.
Head cannot and does not require the delegation of authority, jealous of any new ideas, not going away.
Leader safely and skillfully conveys the fear of authority, and he is able to send and receive their results. He creates the possibility of positive feedback, support reasonable initiative of employees within relevant objectives.
Of course, a great success, if officially appointed by the head of a unit possesses leadership qualities and naturally becomes the leader of the team. In modern conditions, the ever-increasing competition, there are stricter requirements for managers. Today it is not enough to be just a head. Manager-leader - this is one of the components of success of the organization.
What is leadership?
I reflect on these words, on the basis of their own, personal understanding. You can certainly look in the dictionary. But to think is more interesting than taking it ready.
The leader is the one who is able to lead or someone who just knows how to go ahead of all other drawing by example. It is believed that to be a leader - it's cool. Some believe that it is necessary to strive to be a leader, and if you are not a leader then you were not just the born to be one. Here begins the error.
It is often assumed that the leader - the one who is able to suppress the other, manipulate others, against their will to engage in any business, that the leader is the loudest person.
Leadership manifests itself in different ways in different situations. A leader is someone in the fight where you have to defend their rights with their fists. Someone is a leader in education, in the profession. And someone is the undisputed leader in a family where everyone listened to him. You probably should not try to always and everywhere to break into the lead. There are, of course, exceptional people who manage it.
Leadership - is an expression of the inner forces of human confidence. Such a person is not afraid, no doubt, because he knows that he is right. And such a person takes responsibility for himself and for others. First, for themselves, for the correctness of the chosen path and then for others who follow him. Leadership is in responsibility, understanding that your actions mean to others and to the world.
Leader - it is always a bright personality, charismatic, he becomes an example to follow. Fascinating how this man draws people working on their minds, and sometimes manipulates them. However, this is due a deep misconception that the leader - a man who sees only his innocence and defends her, unwilling to tolerate the opinions of others. I am ready to argue with that opinion, it's not always the goal justifies the means, and the one who decided to lead in any case, is obliged to listen to others, to find a compromise, to think, but rather whether his point of view, and if so, then convince others he is right, of course, not unfounded, but with concrete facts, actions. For example, the Russian national hockey team could not win many games if the captain Pavel Datsyuk did not listen to the opinion of the members of the team, did not interact with them without explaining what tactics better. So the captain, that is a leader - not the one who plays the best on the team, but the one who can make the team to play the best.
Franz Hesselbayn, a renowned expert in the field of leadership and motivation, saying, "Leadership begins with the personal qualities of a leader." I am absolutely convinced that by uncommunicative, restricted or not smart person, people are not pulled; it cannot motivate people and lead. Stretch to open a smart, able to interact with people, able to motivate them. In an emergency, the leader always knows not only how to behave, and how to help others deal with the problem, to find the right solution. He looks and sees farther than others, thinks globally. Such people are always needed; it concerns the school, community or the country. If you take the scale of the state, the people, led by such a leader may raise the country to a new, higher level. So a leader when it became the first in our country, President Nursultan Nazarbayev. He stood at the head of the state and deduced from Kazakhstan economic and political turmoil after the collapse of the Soviet Union, as an experienced captain after the storm removes from his battered reef Brig. But there are people who use their leadership is not for peaceful purposes: start wars, run by organized crime. From this, they do not cease to be leaders: they are listening, they are followed, they imitate. At this side of the coin also have its representatives as Pol Pot or Adolph Hitler, managed to lead a lot of people, freely carry out their orders. But we all know that they are the leaders of these ruined millions of lives and made thousands of people unhappy. However, everyone chooses what he will do in his life, who is a hero, be on the side of good or evil. The same thing applies to the leaders of modern society.
Summing up his reflections, I want to say that all people want to be successful and independent, but someone will be those, and someone and will only desire it. (Clark-Epstein, Chris, 2002) This action is guided by a leader, it is the action needed his country and society, only actions can establish itself in anything. Hard work and a tremendous force of that can lead one to success. And one way to achieve their goal is a self-development. Am I a leader?
I feel a desire to be a leader, that is for sure. Nevertheless, sometimes I really feel that not in every life situation. Sometimes leadership really helps me in life. I have won the grant for FLEX (future leaders exchange) which was only could be done if you have leader skills in your blood. I cannot also stay away from public life. I am really interested in getting people together and solve problems together. My Mom says quite often that I am a really diplomatic person, that my presence could make friends out of enemies.

I think that leadership taught me endurance. I started to realize many thing, for example, any failure - is not the lack of self-confidence, and rewarding experience. A true leader is always able to find all the bad things good side. Compared to me in past, nowadays me is glad for any experience, either good or bad, because experience is something that makes you wise and to be a leader you have to be wise.
One more thing I understood is that I will never stop learning new things and try to do them in different way.
I'm not sure what my future will be associated with the leader of a career; If I had a chance, I would. Because I still think a huge leader lives inside of me, I just have to find my path. I still need to develop many skills for that as well. Sometimes I am still afraid of public speaking, sometimes I am afraid of not being understood and fail. But true leader does not let the fear rule his life. Moreover, sometimes a man gives himself an inflated self-esteem. Here, in my opinion, it is important not to cross the border when starting self-confidence and arrogance.
And, in my opinion, the most important thing is not to forget who is a leader and who is a boss. I would rather be a leader than a boss because I simply cannot rule the others JUST BECAUSE I am entitled to.
In the future I want to open a new talent, develop good
traits and continue to continue to be a leader. I want my close people to be proud of me, and mostly, I want to be proud of myself.
